Dr. Tim Kane

Tim Kane assembled the U.S. troop deployments dataset and has published a handful of research papers and articles about it. The most recent data was updated with significant contributions from Kien Deshpande of Stanford University.

Kane is a professor at the University of Austin, a Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution, and president & co-founder of the American Lyceum (501c3). He is also the author of numerous books, including The Immigrant Superpower (Oxford University Press, 2022), Balance: The Economics of Great Powers (Simon and Schuster, 2013) with Glenn Hubbard, Total Volunteer Force (Hoover Press, 2017), and Bleeding Talent (Palgrave, 2012).

Kane earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, San Diego. His work has been featured in the New York Times (see this early op-ed from 2004), Wall Street Journal, and Commentary Magazine. Kane has also appeared often on television and radio programs including CNN, NPR, PBS, CNBC, and FOX News.
